MBB Power Rankings 2/25

1. Purdue - Purdue had a FE-VA! And the only proscription was more Hummel!  Now that they have him, it seems like the Boilermakers are back on track. They are still a full game back of MSU, but with four straight wins behind them they have all the momentum.

2. Michigan State - Only played one game this week. It wasn’t quite a statement game, but it was a nice home win against a Badgers squad that seemed to be heating up.

3. Illinois - Their away win against OSU was so impressive it almost made me forget about the embarrassing home-loss they suffered against PSU in which the Illini only managed 33 points.

4. Wisconsin -  The Badgers had the chance to follow their 6 game losing streak with a six game win streak, but the Spartans saw to it that their win streak stopped at five. Still though, its nice to see the Badgers back from the dead.

5. Ohio State - I was high on this team for most of the year. I never thought they would win the conference, but I expected them to make the finals of the B10 tourney. But this team’s glaring lack of a point guard is really starting to show over the last month.

6. Minnesota - Only one quality win in the last eight games (a home W against Illinois). They’ve spent the rest of their time losing to the big dogs or fattening up on the kiddies.

7. Penn State - It’s not often that you look better in your losses than in your wins. But that was the case this week for the Nittany Lions who somehow managed to win a game neither they nor Illinois seemed interested in, they they turn around and gave the Buckeyes everything they could take before succumbing in Columbus.

8. Iowa - Nice overtime win to seemingly snuff out Michigan’s tournament dreams. Tonight they take on the other team from the Great Lake State, but this one’s away from the comfy confines of Iowa City. State are 15 point favorites in this matchup, take ‘em.

9. Michigan -  Too much Mr. Hyde from guard Manny Harris, and not enough Dr. Jekyl. Sometimes he’s one of the most dominating slashers in the nation (Dr. Jekyl), and sometimes he thinks he’s got Stephen Curry’s stroke, he does not (Mr. Hyde). Hyde Harris was so destructive against Iowa coach Beilein decided to sit them both for the entire overtime.

10. Northwestern -  I don’t love teams for being winners, or hate them for being losers. What I do hate is inconsistency (which has more to do with my gambling problem than anything else). With that in mind I tell you there is no team I hate more than NU. Seriously, who beats MSU on the road, but can’t handle a trip to Iowa? Who takes out a hot OSU squad, but  then gets waxed by a floundering Minnesota team? So much anger…. so many worthless betting slips….

11. Indiana - Good News: Indiana’s leading scorer Devan Dumes cam back from suspension this week. Bad News: His return made no difference whatsoever in the Hoosiers results. Their current L streak sits at 5.
