Matt Perez, an Indiana commit and Senior RB for Maine South High School in the Chicagoland area, could’ve doubled as Cavity Sam from the game Operation this past week. Perez didn’t practice all week due to multiple injuries, including a deep thigh bruise, an injured ankle, and a swollen left hand. But when the game on the slate is the Illinois 8A State Championship at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL, and you are your team’s star player… You play. No questions asked.
None needed to be asked of Perez, who went absolutely berserk in his high school career finale, rumbling over an inferior Marist defense for 316 yards and 5 touchdowns on 27 carries Saturday night.
“There was no doubt I was going to play,” Perez said afterward. “The adrenaline was pumping and I felt great. We wanted to prove that we can be the best team in the state, and we showed that we are a dynasty tonight.”
Perez, who just last week was named ESPNChicago.com’s Preps Player of the Year, will attend Indiana University in the Fall of 2010. He rushed for 2,247 yards and 38 TD’s during his senior season.
