Buckeye Briefing 2/3/09

The Buckeye Briefing

Up and down week for former Buckeyes.

UP: Santonio Holmes made one of the most impressive catches in recent Superbowl History. Seriously, had David Tyree not been able to somehow catch the ball with his helmet this would have been the greatest clutch catch I’ve ever seen at the NFL level. It was so great it almost made me forget he completely whiffed on a ball he had two hands on just 15 sec earlier. No matter, I bet on the Steelers and he won me money, so all is forgiven.

DOWN: Alex Boone was arrested for public intoxication in L.A. on Sunday night and the LAPD had to use a taser to bring him down. In and of itself I would think this would hurt the former stand-out’s draft position, cause as long as he’s not behind the wheel, who gives a shit about a public intoxication charge. But coupled with a 2006 drunk-driving arrest, and a self-proclaimed drinking problem he has struggled with since eighth grade this arrest could seriously affect Boone’s draft status. And yes, you read that correctly he’s been struggling with the sauce since EIGHTH  GRADE!!! Who the fuck ever heard of a thirteen year old alcoholic?

UP: OSU recruiting class. This group was already saccharine sweet, but it got just a little bit sweeter with today’s signing of Marcus Hall. Hall was Rivals.com’s sixth-rated O-lineman. He was reported to also be interested in the Wolverines, but instead choose to win some football games during his college career.

DOWN: OSU’s bottom-line. Athletic director Gene Smith announced that the program will likely be facing a budget shortfall this year. Basketball ticket sales are down, as are concession sales. The department is considering a $1 increase in basketball and football tickets across the board for the 2009-2010 season. I hear there is no truth to the rumors that the football programs 2009 recruits will have to settle for Range Rover 4.0s, rather than the program’s standard 4.6s.

FLATLINE: OSU Hoops. The team has dropped two of its last four contests. The Ls came against quality opponents, Illinois and Michigan State, but were by a combined 29 points. The Ws came against cellar-dweller Indiana and slumping Michigan. Better have that shit figured out by time they tip off against Purdue tonight.

See what I mean? This is a tough to call this week Up or Down for the team. But I’m gonna call it an up week cuz OSU teams won me way more money than they cost me.
