- For all intents and purpose it looks like the 2009 hoops recruiting year is completed for the Big Ten. There are about four big fish still out there, but none of them seem to have much interest in signing up to play ball in the heartland. John Wall, considered by many to be the number one recruit in the nation has yet to commit, but I’m going on the record and predicting he picks Kentucky. Calipari has already landed the player I consider to be the no. 2 recruit DeMarcus Cousins. I hate the he’s going to revive this program. Oh well, I guess two craptastic seasons is penance enough for running Tubby off.
- The consensus 2010 no.1 overall football recruit in the nation seems to be interested in every school in the B10. Seantrel Henderson is a 6′8, 300 lb mauling tackle coming out of Minnesota. He’s received offers from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, OSU, and Wisconsin. He apparently has interest in all of them, but he’s also fielding offers from eight other schools. We have to keep him in B10 country, otherwise I’m going to blow the whole situation out of proportion and write a blog about how the B10 can’t land superior talent anymore. He’s also the only five-star recruit born and raised in the Midwest (not good)…. see I’m already working on that column.Â
- Speaking of Minnesota. The Gophers football team was one of only two BCS schools to be penalized with scholarship losses due to poor academic performance. A big part of the Gophers low academic score stems from the poor performance of Tim Brewster’s first recruiting class. Only 8 of those 19 players are still at the school.
